What to expect from treatment
You first appointment will take between one and one and a half hours. A full case history of your symptoms including any past or current illnesses will be taken followed by a detailed physical assessment. With the information gained from the case history and physical assesment, an analysis of your symptoms will be made. A top to toe examination will follow and the necessary adjustments made to the relevant joints.
Follow up appointments take about half an hour during which time as well as treatment, your chiropractor may give you advice on how you may help your progress. Gentle manipulation is used and sometimes the chiropractor may use dry needling (acupuncture needles) the help relieve muscle pain.
Will I get help and advice to ensure the problem does not reoccur?
Yes you will receive postural advice after the treatment to help your body get the most benefit from the adjustments you have received and to raise your awareness of simple things you may be doing every day which may be making your symptoms worse. You may also be given some basic excercises or stretches to do if your chiropractor feels that would be beneficial.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions needed varies considerably depending on:
You age: You generally heal more slowly as you get older.
The nature of the problem: a simple backache will often clear more quickly than a sciatic problem.
How long you have had the problem: Generally, yesterday's injury will resolve faster than one of 20 years standing.
Will I have to get undressed?
You will be asked to undress to your underwear particularly for the first consultation. You will be offered a gown to wear. It is important at the first consultation for your chiropractor to be able to see the entire spine in order to give a thorough examination.
